Breakthrough Learning Center is always adapting to the changes in the school system nationwide. As we prep for this summer after a year of Distance Learning in the public school system, we have revised and refined our curriculums so Breakthrough students are engaged, have more hands on experience, and thoroughly understand the foundation of concepts. With changes to our education system due to the pandemic, we know it will be important for all students to rebuild their foundation, fill in the missing gaps, and recreate a hard work ethic to be prepared for next school year. Our goal is to continuously update and upgrade our curriculum to be above our nation’s standards so that we can open more opportunities for our students. Being involved in creating the Common Core Curriculum and Assessments for High School level Mathematics, Mr. Avila is consistently training throughout the school year on more new research based teaching techniques and strategies. Since research is ongoing, we are constantly changing our curriculum so that it can meet the needs of our students and California standards.

Be proactive this summer! Get ahead this summer by joining one of our rigorous Summer Review Courses. Our SRC gives an introduction to students on topics to be covered in the upcoming school year. We offer a variety of courses that will provide double reinforcement and confidence to students. Each course includes a structured curriculum provided the first day of class, tests throughout class to reinforce concepts, and activities throughout the course tBLChat will keep students engaged and involved in their learning process. As students apply their knowledge of concepts to diverse Common Core Projects, the retaining of the information becomes stronger for each student as they go through the school year.  Our main curriculum is based on Placentia- Yorba Linda School District, therefore we do use the same or similar based textbooks as resources for our students.

Language Arts Writing Composition and Literature Analysis

Review over different writing composition structures such as narrative, persuasive, compare and contrast, and literature response. Depending on grade level, we prepare according to Common Core Standards and also prepare them for the following grade school year. Lower levels would concentrate more on compositions, while upper grade levels would focus on Document Based Questions and Literature Response Essays. Literature response essays require analysis, understanding, and interpretation of stories through using examples of figurative language. This class will build creative writing skills along with Common Core based projects to reinforce standards. Common Core learning needs a strong basis in writing and analytical thinking so these writing skills can be applied to other Common Core subjects.
